Thermography began in the early 1900s as an affordable alternative to engraved stationery. The thermography print process today starts with ink on a freshly printed piece being sprinkled with resin and then exposed to heat. When exposed to heat, the resin and ink fuse together raise off the surface of the paper. The raised lettering effect really does look similar to engraving but far more affordable.
We use offset printers to achieve this signature look and feel. Check out our short video about thermography where you can actually see the print press operator light a fire to heat up the resin!
TOG.ink offers 1- and 2-color thermography. Thermo can be artfully paired with digital printing or foil stamping. Custom print cards and folding cards are available with thermography for as low as $4 per 10 cards! That’s a crazy good price for a style of printing that’s very distinct and very pretty.
