I happen to love the combination of full-color artwork and real foil stamping, especially when it’s a full-coverage piece of artwork. Custom foil printing brings a surprising element of dimension to the art!
Here are 5 great ways to enhance your artwork with real foil, and I highly recommend checking out what TOG.ink offers for digital + foil flat cards and digital + foil folded cards.
1. Accent Wording
You’ve probably noticed that wedding invitations often use accent wording to highlight the couple’s names. This is a formal invitation practice that can be applied to other special events like bar/bat mitzvahs, birthdays and anniversaries. Accent wording is an excellent place to use real foil because it adds shine and it calls attention to the guest(s) of honor.
2. Enhance Design Elements
Real foil can add glimmer to any design element in your artwork. The application of foil to the agate design shown above is a great example of how foil can bring the design to life. Clients will love this surprising detail and you’ll love how it adds even more depth to your piece.
3. Creating New Elements
Lush flowers and lavish floral patterns are very trendy right now but maybe you want to give your design a little something special. Adding flourishes, swirls, leaves, or select flowers in real foil will do just that. It takes your design to a whole new level of beautiful!
4. Formatting Details
Lines, ampersands, “and”, motifs…these are all really small details that can be printed in real foil to add just the right amount of sparkle to custom stationery pieces. It’s super subtle yet really pretty and it’s a fabulous way to achieve some separation between lines of text especially in the increasingly popular, text-only invitation formats.
5. Frames
Frames are an easy way to add formality to any piece of stationery. They bring a level of sophistication and interest to the piece. Now add those frames in shimmering foil and your printed piece becomes more than an invitation, it becomes a presentation of event details.

Having the opportunity to run a foil press gives me a new appreciation for the art of foil stamping. Knowing the setup and the behind-the-scenes details that are necessary for foil stamping helped me understand why it is held with such high regard. Every piece of every order needs full attention to ensure the end result is as beautiful as expected.
