THE INKSPIRATION
Mardi Gras is upon us! I was asked to create a design around something that inspires me and I have always been entranced by Mardi Gras. Also called Fat Tuesday, this incredible celebration is filled with lavish parades, intense parties and a rich sense of history. I love the bold colors and outrageous style.
THE PIECE
Every great party requires an even better invitation! So here’s a custom party invitation I created as well as what inspired me. I focused on the joker because this crazy character exudes so much of what is awesome about Mardi Gras. Vibrant digital printing and brilliant gold foil help bring him to life!

Card Size: 5 x 7 (A7) Flat Cards
Trim Option: Rounded Corners
Print Pairing: Digital + Foil Stamping
Paper Recommendation: White Smooth, 115 lb. is a great choice. I’m testing Fluorescent White 100% Cotton, 110 lb. and Ultrawhite Superfine Eggshell, 120 lb. Check back in a few weeks when we analyze the results!
Advice for Designers: I tried to keep all the foil lines that cover two or more colors to a minimum thickness of 2 pt. This helps trap the colors at the center of those lines.
In a few weeks when everyone has recovered from the wild times of Mardi Gras, we will have tested a few different paper options for these custom print digital and foil invitations. We’ll provide a breakdown of the test with some shots from the studio to compare and contrast. It’s no Mardi Gras but things may get spicy!
