Custom Print Ribbon: What you need to know!

Several ribbons printed with colorful custom designs and rolled out on a table.

Yes, custom print ribbon has launched and we couldn’t be happier! We have been waiting with anticipation ever since seeing samples earlier in the year. You see, The Occasions Group acquired this new company back in 2022 and they happen to have one of a handful of ribbon printing machines in the country so this is a special offering indeed.

What exactly have we added to TOG.ink? We now offer 1-sided, full-color sublimation printing on two types of ribbon, satin and grosgrain. You’ll find 1.5″ satin ribbon, 3″ satin ribbon, 1.5″ grosgrain ribbon” and 3″ grosgrain ribbon. Each ribbon offering is available in 2-yard, 6-yard or 10-yard rolls.

Custom Print Satin Ribbon

The satin ribbon is soft and smooth, just like you would expect. The quality is impeccable and we are very pleased with the vibrant full-color printing. We think of stain ribbon for more formal events like wrapping around wedding invitations and anniversary gifts, or adding a personalized touch to table centerpieces at special events. Of course, you can use custom satin ribbon however you like!

Custom Print Grosgrain Ribbon

The grosgrain ribbon has a nice texture, just like the name suggests. You can readily see the texture but it does not interfere with the quality of print. The colors are still vibrant with crisp detail in the design, just like the satin ribbon. We think of grosgrain ribbon as a more casual option, perfect for birthday presents and Christmas gifts. Use it for decorations or enhancing in-store displays.

Create ribbon for every occasion!

Now we’re positive you’ve already got some ideas bubbling up. Whether you’re considering accentuating wedding invitations with personalized ribbons like the maroon floral set below or want to offer some exclusive birthday ribbon designs in your store, we’re ready to help you try out all the ways you can use this new offering.

Custom Wedding Ribbon Set

One of our in-house designers. Carynn, created the wedding set below for some friends getting married in September. The 1.5″ ribbon printed with the couple’s names will layer beautifully over the 3″ ribbon printed with that gorgeous floral pattern. She’s looking forward to wrapping her present to the couple, and she knows it will stand out in the crowd of wedding gifts at the reception (because sometimes creatives are competitive that way, you can probably relate).

Custom Birthday Ribbon Set

My favorite part about this custom birthday ribbon set is the 3″ rainbow ribbon! Look at how BEAUTIFUL that is. You can use that for so many things but it layers perfectly with the stars and confetti designs below. I mean, talk about being the life of the party.

5 Tips for Designing Custom Print Ribbon

1. Use the Templates – We can’t stress this enough. You can ensure your print project is a success by using the template when creating your file for upload.

2. Expect some Bounce – The ribbon printing press has a tolerance of 1/8″, so you can expect some bounce in the printed design. Keep this in mind when designing. Solid colors and all-over patterns bleed beautifully but defined design elements and wording should stay in the template’s safe zone. (Eg. notice the birthday ribbons above and how the rainbow star pattern on the top got cut off.)

3. Watch the Safe Zone! – We’re repeating this part because it’s important. Keep wording, personalization and key design elements inside the safe zone.

4. Consider Design Orientation – some designs will lend better to a horizontal orientation vs a vertical orientation. You’ll notice how nicely the names printed in the horizontal orientation of the custom wedding ribbon.

5. Remember, It’s One-Sided Printing – This means if you print a solid color on the front, the ribbon will be white on the back which really only comes into play when you’re creating a bow. You will see the white side of the ribbon. Not a big deal for casual events but consider this when designing for formal events like tying a ribbon with bow on custom wedding invitations.
